Recycled Sugarcane Fiber? Now that is one way to go green! That is what Roaring Spring Paper Company has done along with creating paper out of other sustainable products such as these 3 types:
- Recycled papers – instead of heading to a landfill Roaring Spring uses waste paper in their products
- Sugarcane Fibers- This is the coolest thing I have heard of yet in the world of green. Roaring Spring uses fibers that are a result of the sugar can be refining process, typically would just be thrown away. This material produces a thicker, brighter sheet of paper.
- Now hold on to you your set for this one! They make POO paper ! yes… poo. This paper is made from actual poo of elephants, donkeys, cows and horses. Do not worry, it is odorless and clean . How is that for a sustainable material?!
The first thing I did to test this paper was write on it with a permanent marker. My daughter has done school projects where she has highlighted and/or used markers and had it bleed through and ruin notes on the other side, so we tried it out! It was obvious just by feel that it is thicker and of higher quality than regular paper. The permanent marker did not soak through the Roaring Spring Recycled paper, it did soak through a regular notebook piece of paper. I had a feeling this would happen considering you can practically see through the other paper.
The Genesis Notebooks have got to be the best, highest quality spiral bound notebook that I have ever used. Besides the quality of the paper, lets talk about the notebook itself. The spiral binding is strong and clearly durable. The Genesis notebooks come with a pocket folder built in and a double sided Schedule/Note page. I have never seen a 15yr old so excited over paper as my daughter was when she opened these notebooks. Her exact words were ” Wow, this literally makes me want to write in it haha” .
PS* the ”other” notebook in this picture is the one we used above to test the marker theory, which my daughter promptly handed off to my youngest to use for coloring after she saw the quality of these Genesis notebooks*

The inside cover of the Genesis Noteboooks explains about Sugarcane and is quite fascinating!
While I know it will be hard to read in this picture, I just had to share !
Overall, the quality of these recycled papers far beats any that I have used. The simple fact that Roaring Spring Paper Company does more than just recycle is enough to make me buy! Other companies could learn a lesson from them & their creative use of sustainable materials.

Great recycled products! I loved your “soaked through” example photos because that is something that I absolutely HATE! I’m glad there are products out there that doesn’t happen to
